Annual Christmas Carol Service
King Edward VI School's Annual Christmas Carol Service took place at Lichfield Cathedral on Wednesday 4th December 2024. This year we had over 130 staff and students perform to a large congregation, who thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Catharine Forster, Headteacher said:
The school enjoyed welcoming current and past members of the school community to join in the festivities and celebrate Christmas at the Cathedral with a joyful and entertaining service.
The service was led by Revd Canon Dr Gregory Platten, Canon Chancellor and the music department at King Edward VI School. It included readings by the Senior Five, as well as traditional carols sung by the congregation, including: 'Once in Royal David's City' and 'O Little Town of Bethlehem', which were accompanied by the orchestra and 'O Come, All Ye Faithful' and 'Angels from the Realm of Glory', which were accompanied by the Jazz Band.
There were also musical performances from the Girls' Choir, Junior Choir, Senior Choir, our Vocal Trio, Brass and Woodwind Ensemble, and Flute and Guitar Ensemble, which were all captivating to listen to.
The event was a true testament to the talent and hard work of the students, and just goes to show that months of rehearsals and dedication paid off.
Helen Coulthard, Chair of Governors said:
The performances were outstanding and the students were a credit to the school. The work that the staff put into make this occasion so special is very much appreciated. The whole evening was wonderful, but I think we all especially appreciated the orchestra and jazz band accompanying the carols and the singing trio were exquisite.
