Homework

Independent learning plays a vital part in children’s education and is set by teachers according to clear school and departmental policies. The school uses a website called 'Satchel One' to help students organise their homework tasks. Every student and parent/carer has access to the site via a personalised login, and can view details of homework set by teachers, including deadlines and support materials. An App is also available so that students and parents can receive homework notifications on their smart phone/tablet.

In Years 7 to 9, students normally do homework in two or three subjects each evening, spending approximately half an hour per subject. In Year 10 and above, including the Sixth Form, a greater commitment of time to homework is expected. The nature of the assignments set in Key Stage 4 and 5, and the need for students to develop good habits of personal organisation mean that it is not always possible to specify precisely how much time should be spent on each subject.

Frequently asked questions

Homework is an important part of the learning taking place at school.

As a school we aim to provide an appropriate level of homework for students depending on their year group. If any parent is concerned about any aspect of homework, they are urged to get in touch with the school.

Detentions may be issued if homework is not completed on time, or if it fails to meet the required standard. It is very helpful for parent’s to check through the homework before it is handed in, and support the child in making improvements.

There is a homework club after school from 3.15-4.15pm in the Library. This is supervised by a member of staff.

Satchel One is a learning platform that allows teachers to publish homework and resources online and students to complete and submit them online.
