Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have.
Winston Churchill
It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
Mahatma Gandhi
As nurses, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul, and body of our patients, their families, and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.

OVERALL INTENT

This qualification is for learners interested in taking a hands-on course alongside their GCSEs that will offer them an insight into what it is like to work in one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK: Health and Social Care. The course covers some of the fundamental aspects of health and social care, including growth and development, health and social care services and values, and health and wellbeing, giving learners a broad introduction to a sector that transects a wide range of careers from social care and social work to many different branches of healthcare. The breadth of this course allows learners to identify their strengths and interests to help inform next steps in education and training.

IMPLEMENTATION

This BTEC Tech Award is a Level 1/Level 2 course that is the same size and rigour as GCSEs, widening learners’ options at Key Stage 4, while keeping all their options open for progression into post-16 education and training.

By combining theory with practical application, learners are given the opportunity to develop their health and social care knowledge, as well as to develop employability skills such as investigation and research, teamwork and public speaking.
