Medical Science

The WJEC Examination Board offer a Vocational Diploma in Medical Science that is gradually being recognised by more Universities, and is already accepted by Bangor University, Cardiff Met, Chester University and University of West England. Medical Science is offered as an alternative route of study for some students who may not meet the entry requirements for Biology, or for those who want to study a more vocational style course. Medical Science has proven to be popular at King Edward’s, and many of our students have gone on to study relevant courses at University.

What will I cover?

Medical Science has a different structure of study as it is a Diploma. There are 6 units in total, each of which have their own grade. To pass the full Diploma, students must pass each component. The different units allow students to learn and develop different skills such as group work, statistical analysis, laboratory skills, research, case studies and carrying out physiological tests.

Students need to be aware that topics such as Statistics and Biochemistry will be covered in the course, which will be assessed in the final written exams and some coursework pieces.
